Entry requirements and application information

  • Undergraduate entry requirements

    Undergraduate Foundation Year

    Sri Lankan General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level)

    Applicants with this qualification are invited to apply for our international foundation year – please refer to the  for the relevant foundation year entry criteria. 

    Undergraduate Year 1

    Sri Lankan General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level)

    Applicants holding this qualification are considered to have studied at a level comparable to UK A-levels. For example, an A grade in the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) is regarded as comparable to an A grade at UK A-Level, with other grades following a similar equivalence. Please check individual course pages for entry requirements.

    National Certificate NVQ (3 or above), National Diploma, Higher Diploma

    Applicants with national certificates, diplomas or higher diplomas may be considered for Year 1, or advanced standing depending on qualification and length of time studied.

    Bachelor degree

    Applicants with a degree may be considered for entry to Year 1 depending on length of time studied.

    Additional subject-specific requirements may apply depending on the undergraduate course you are applying for.

    Undergraduate Year 2

    Bachelor’s degree

    Applicants with a degree from a recognised institute may be considered for advanced entry depending on the length of time studied. Additional subject-specific requirements may apply depending on the undergraduate course you are applying for.

    Please note that direct entry into Year 2 is not available for our Law, Psychology or Social Work courses.

    English language entry requirements 

    Typical offers for undergraduate and foundation year courses include a standard overall IELTS score of 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 in each of the four components.

  • Masters entry requirements

    Academic entry requirements

    A Bachelor’s Special degree is required, with minimum lower second honours depending on your chosen Masters course.

    Additional subject-specific requirements may apply based on the postgraduate course you are applying for. These entry requirements are intended as guidelines. If you have questions about your qualifications or if they are not listed here, please feel free to contact us.

    Typical offers for a Masters course include a standard overall IELTS score of 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 in each of the four components.

  • PhD entry requirements

    Academic entry requirements

    A Bachelor’s Special degree is required, with an upper second honours in a subject relevant to your chosen PhD course.

    However, if you do not meet the academic requirements, you may still be considered for the degree if you can provide evidence of extensive work experience in a related field.

    These entry requirements are intended as guidelines. If you have questions about your qualifications or if they are not listed here, please feel free to contact us.

    Typical offers for a PhD degree include a higher overall IELTS score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in each of the four components.

    Participating in the Award makes it easy and fun for you to get involved and make the most of university life.

Safety on campus

We offer a safe campus community for our students, supported by our 24/7 on-site security team, who are contactable 24-hours a day if you have any concerns. The Security Centre is equipped 24/7 to respond to emergency situations and includes CCTV and other crime prevention equipment. .

Food 

You can buy international products from our weekly on-campus market, and international supermarkets in the city.

Religion

There is a multi-faith chaplaincy on campus, a Buddhist temple, churches and a mosque in Brighton & Hove.
